Barack Obama made headlines this week when he shed public tears over the loss of children’s lives to gun violence.
My being an Anarchist precludes me from ascribing any political affiliation to the worthiness of life. I feel all people are equal and their lives just as important, be they rich, poor, or live behind one border or another, or rally under a particular flag. That said, I find it disgusting that Mr. Obama melodramatize grief over the loss of lives from gun violence when Mr. Obama is responsible for equally tragic loss of life resulting from U.S. drone strikes abroad in the specious “war on terror”.
I don’t know if I would characterize Mr. Obama’s display as crocodile tears, or crock-of-shit tears. I find it hard to believe that a man responsible for the taking of other children’s lives would feel any remorse for the loss of life at the hands of others not under his charge. At the time of this post, loss of life in grades K-12 in the U.S. is stated to be at 160 children (source https://ballotpedia.org/United_States_school_shootings,_1990-present). Likewise, the loss of children’s life in Pakistan alone is estimated to be 168 (2004 – 2015). The total across all countries where the U.S. engages in drone strikes is greater, and this does not take into account non-drone actions such as troop-related killings. Be that as it may, this is but one more item in the “why I loathe government” bucket. State-sponsored murder goes unnoticed, while the moral decay of an uncaring people turns itself inward and brings home the message that allegiance amounts to accepting murder on some scale, and the loss of innocent life at home is a reflection of our actions exercised abroad.
